Drama and Hopscotch as teaching tools!!!

Today was a fabulously FUNtastic day!!!

Kids today learnt English and story telling through Drama. After interaction with Rajshree Didi we just realized, Drama is an effective tool for self expression which involves the kids emotionally, teaches them team work, helps them to be aware in present moment and participate actively.

It was a little difficult for Raveena, sharp but a shy kid, to participate actively and express herself freely but motivation by her colleagues eventually helped her express her emotions and thoughts. Bhavna and Bhavesh are quite confident and more interestingly instead of over shadowing others, help them and motivate them. Bharti, otherwise is not pro-active but, today during drama session enthusiastically played her character, probably because for her this way of teaching was a nonthreatening environment. For Bharti, conventional way of teaching where we evaluate kids with a standard yardstick makes her uncomfortable. Also, since the story revolved around giving and loving others it sowed seeds of sharing and love in kids.

Jyoti, our another student, is transforming into a very confident kid. She got her elder sister to the project for the first time. Both of them learnt entire story in 30 minutes. We gave them another story to perform. I was amazed at their sustained focus, observation skills and voice projection.

HOPscotch and MATH!
We scratched out the hopscotch court on the ground. The kids were divided into groups each kid was asked to choose a number and jump on the same number, other group was asked to add, multiply and divide those numbers :) All the kids participated and most importantly had FUN while learning math haha :D
